Client Description
Saltchuk, a family of shipping, transportation and distribution companies including tug operator Foss Maritime and ocean carrier TOTE, moved its headquarters from South Lake Union to accommodate its long-term growth. The three floor interior space of their new Pioneer Square office building on Seattle's waterfront was designed by Mithun with GLY Construction as the general contractor.
Project overview
The graphic wall covering at the reception desk is a reproduction of a painting depicting a historic image of the Seattle waterfront. The image represents approximately the same spot where Saltchuk’s offices currently sit. Also, the canoes are an important symbol from which Saltchuk derived the shapes in their logo. Seating areas have magnetic wall covering maps, where employees can place markers of the locations where Saltchuk is doing business. Old safety awards were redesigned out of wood, reminiscent of wooden boats. Other graphics include wayfinding signage, conference room naming and artwork placement.
